Building Safe and Code Compliant Buildings through Increased Understanding of Firestopping
This presentation is a code based educational presentation that discusses the elements of fire containment through the proper design, installation, and inspection of firestopping. It begins with a brief overview of why firestopping is so important and the potential consequence of a fire, followed by reviewing required wall conditions and what — per the code — is needed to firestop each of those walls differently. We next dive deep into what a third party tested system is, what testing is done to create these systems, and what aspects must be adhered to in order to achieve the required fire ratings of a floor or wall. Finally, we will review proper and improper firestop installations, as well as best practices to maximize the ease and effectiveness of firestopping.
